Starting from today (March 20, 2023), Twitter’s SMS two-factor authentication (2FA) feature will only be available to users who have subscribed to Twitter Blue. The popular microblogging platform has made this decision to make the 2FA security measure exclusive to its paid subscribers.
If you are currently protecting your account with Two-Factor Authentication without a Twitter Blue subscription, then you will have to use only the password. The latest move by Elon Musk-owned company is a blessing in disguise for Twitter users since many people faced issues with the 2FA SMS codes two months back. We had enabled Twitter 2FA but could not login because the authentication code was not delivered to our mobile.
Luckily, we managed to remove Two-Factor Authentication by using the secret code. that we stored inside the PC. The support team was also not responding and we had to face to tough time if we are unable to disable the 2FA. The main problem is Twitter automatically logs out once in a week and if you are not receiving the 2FA code, then you will face issues. It’s better not to use 2FA and make use of a very strong password.
For those unaware, 2FA is a proven security measure, which requires users to provide dual authentication. You will receive an authentication code via SMS. The relevant Twitter account can be logged in only if the correct code as received on the mobile device is provided.
Previously, Twitter offered SMS Two-Factor Authentication to all its users for free as an added layer of security. However, due to the misuse of the feature by bad actors, the company has decided to limit access to this feature to Twitter Blue subscribers only.
In February of this year, Twitter announced its plans to discontinue free access to its 2FA security feature. Non-Twitter Blue subscribers who were already enrolled were given 30 days to disable this method and enroll in another. This grace period has ended, and the 2FA authentication service has been disabled for non-Blue users.
If you want to continue using SMS 2FA, you will need to sign up for Twitter Blue’s paid subscription service, which costs $8 per month or $84 per year. In India, you will have to pay Rs 6800 per year to obtain a Twitter Blue tick mark. This subscription also includes features such as the blue verification tick, the ability to compose longer tweets, and the option to edit tweets.
If you are currently using SMS 2FA, it is recommended that you sign up for Twitter Blue to continue using this feature. Alternatively, you can switch to an authenticator app or a security key to maintain the security of your account. You can also decide to make use of Twitter only with a strong password.Learn affiliate marketing on YouTube and earn 7-figure income from the comforts of your home.
